Message from the Superintendent of Schools

Greetings and welcome to the MSAD #28 web site. MSAD #28 serves the communities and Kindergarten through Grade 8 students of Camden and Rockport, Maine.

We take great pride in the success of our schools and the central role that our schools play in our communities. We are fortunate, indeed, to have a dedicated and talented staff and faculty. Parents, school board, and community members have high expectations of our students and of our schools and, in turn, contribute tremendous support to education. Together, we have created a school community that is vibrant and committed to bringing out the very best in every student served.

Guiding our energies and our resources is a comprehensive strategic plan. Developed by a representative group of stakeholders (students, parents, staff, community members, and administrators), this plan spells out our educational and organizational priorities. In doing so, it makes us better able to direct our work on short term goals while staying mindful of the "bigger picture" which includes those long range goals to be accomplished.

State and federal legislation impacting public education certainly makes this both an interesting and challenging time for our district. School communities are being asked to "reinvent" themselves with clearer focus and adherence on learning standards. Maine Learning Results provide us with a framework of standards and we are using that framework as we continue to revamp curriculum, broaden our methods of instruction and construct common assessments to measure student learning. "No Child Left Behind" (NCLB), the federal government's program to evaluate and improve public education, has established performance standards against which all public school students are measured. While the "jury is still out" on the true value and effect of NCLB, no one can argue that measurement and accountability have moved to the top of every public school agenda.

This web site is intended for use by all community members of the district. It is our goal to provide important information that is timely, relevant and of interest to those served by our schools and by those who want to learn more about our district. Your thoughts, comments and suggestions are very welcomed.

Best regards,

Patricia Hopkins
Superintendent of Schools
